Career day 2016 - RHCDS
For my career day this year, I went to Rolling Hills Country Day School. I shadowed Tamera Korshavn, a kindergarten teacher, and I've known her since I was 5 years old.
1. My current profession is a Kindergarten teacher at Rolling Hills Country Day School.
2. The day-to-day responsibilities include teaching 5-6 year olds math, science, language arts, and social studies per the California State standards. My average day is busy. We have many transitions between subjects and classes.
3. My favorite aspects of the job: working with the kids and helping them to learn and grow. Their innocence and wonderment amaze me. They are so eager to learn. I especially enjoy working 1:1 with my students- helping them to gain knowledge and understanding of material, as well as challenging those who work above grade level.
4. My job is very rewarding. I love when my students grasp a new concept. I love when they are turned onto learning. Witnessing them hit certain academic, social, and behavioral milestones makes each day special.
5. Teaching can be very challenging. Students can be difficult due to learning or behavioral issues. Dealing with parents can also be a struggle- some are too demanding, while others are not involved enough. Dealing with different learning styles and learning differences can be challenging. It can be difficult to differentiate assignments.
6. Advice: be organized, be prepared, get to know your students and their families, have patience and understanding, appreciate differences, love your kids! :)
